With any luck, the sun will be shining wherever you are this summer and that means you will need sunglasses.
The primary function of sunglasses is to protect your eyes from the ultra-violet rays of the sun. Just as your skin needs protection so do your eyes, so choosing a lens which does the job properly is very important.

If you usually wear prescription glasses then treating yourself to a pair of transition (or reaction) lenses is an excellent alternative to switching glasses all the time (one pair for inside, one for outside), although we do understand if you want to make a fashion statement, even if it means having to wear prescription sunglasses.

If you have attended a colour consultation you will know which colour palette you should follow for your frames, here are some examples:
Light
Pewter, taupe, cream or rimless are perfect.
Deep
you’ll be the one wearing the black shades the most successfully. You can also have dark brown, olive or gold.
Warm
Tortoiseshell is perfect for you as is chocolate, bronze, olive or amber.
Cool
Silver frames, as well as navy, purple, pewter and charcoal are just the thing.
Soft
Light brown, taupe, beige and soft greens or mauves will complement your blended colouring.
Clear
You can go for black or indeed any of the colours in your palette which will contrast with you hair colour: scarlet, royal blue, and even fashionable lemon yellow.
Don’t forget that the colour of the lens should also work for you. So go for the greys if your dominant or sub-dominant is cool, or the browns if you are warm or if your dominant is warm. If you want to find out more about which colours are most suitable for you, contact a

Just as you can spend hours trying on hats to find the right one, you can spend hours trying on glasses too.

With a little know-how, you can speed up the process. Once you have established the colours that suit you, you need to check that the style works with your face shape. Here are a few hints:
Oval
Forget the extreme geometric styles; any other shapes will work.
Square
Look for lightweight oval or rounded styles. Avoid square or rectangle shapes which will only emphasize the angles of your face.
Rectangle
Wider frames will balance out a narrow face; avoid angular frames.
Inverted triangle
The frames should not extend beyond your temples.
Round
Frameless are an excellent choice and the arms should be lightweight. Frames that are slightly wider than your face will make your face seem narrower. Square or rectangular frames balance a round face. Avoid round shapes.

Fathers wear sunglasses too! Just the same as women, they need to think of their face shape and colouring when choosing the best styles for them.
If he has a chiselled face (lots of angles à la Brad Pitt - you wish), he should avoid sharp angled glasses.
If he has a long face (your very own Prince William), he ought to opt for glasses which extend beyond his face to widen it at the temple.
If he has a round face (Jamie Cullum’s look alike), rectangular frames will give some definition.
If he has a square face (think David Coulthard), oval shape glasses will look great.
