Pastels have never been lovelier, so those of you with light hair and fair complexions will be delighted with this look for Spring. Perfect shades for you will be lemon, yellow-green and apricot but look out for light periwinkles and soft fuchsias too.

They look fabulous worn as block colours, or be more creative and combine two or three together, or go ultra-feminine and adopt this season’s floral look. Pastels such as peaches and creams will complement redheads. For clear, contrasting colourings (dark hair, bright eyes) combine pastels with bright colours. Cool hair tones (ash) should opt for pale pinks and periwinkles. Those with darker hair and skin tones should combine pastels with deeper shades.

The return of safari and the tailored nautical look means a choice of great stylish neutrals. Remember that shades of white vary and some skin tones suit softer whites or ivories rather than stark white. Navy is key for the seaside theme this Spring and is a great alternative to black.

Every colouring can have neutrals as part of their wardrobe but not all of us look good in one neutral top to toe. Chocolate brown, deep olive or black all over will only work for darker colourings and they should keep the dark shades on top if they are mixing with lighter ones. Brown, taupe and olive are great for creating the tone- on-tone effect suited to soft or dark blondes. They will also look good on redheads if they opt for warmer browns and creamier whites.

This season there are fun brights and there are positively neon brights to choose from, so if you’re big on colour and drama then go to town! Cobalt blue, emerald, tangerine; whatever colours you choose go for block or contrast or mix them all up in dramatic patterns or florals. Just make sure that you are picking the right shades (and pattern) for you and you can be as creative or as coordinated as you like. For the clear colourings, combining brights are great for you so mix them up as you wish!

Purple is still popular and fuchsia is a Spring favourite. Again, consider your colouring when choosing pinks; bold fuchsia looks striking against cool ash hair or dark hair with fair skin. Deeper pinks complement darker colourings whilst redheads should avoid any pinks except coral or salmon. If all over colour is not really you, or if your colouring is too light for brights then just add an accessory to get the look without going the whole hog.
