Shopping for new clothes should be a pleasure, not a chore. So, for a successful shopping trip you need to have a good idea of what you are looking for. Before you hit the shops be sure to assess your wardrobe staples, see what you need to replace or add, then consider two or three fashion buys to update your look.

We generally go by the label as an indicator of quality, but there are a few small checks you can make to be certain you are getting the right quality at the right price:
Seams and hemlines
should be flat and shouldn’t wrinkle
Linings
should lie flat and not show
Buttonholes
should not have loose threads

An investment piece isn’t about the cost but the value of the item. If you buy something at a bargain price but rarely wear it then you have wasted your money. If you buy something that costs more money but you wear it over and over again then you have found yourself a good buy.

Be aware that your size may vary between labels and better quality clothes generally fit better. Keep this in mind when you shop so that you are prepared to try a size up or down if necessary.
Don’t buy clothes that pinch; it is more flattering to get a slightly looser fit than squeezing into a garment. Buy colours that you know suit you and that you enjoy wearing. If you see a great item but it’s not a good colour or style for you, it is likely to remain at the back of your wardrobe.
