September 2006 Newsletter
Make sure you clean up your make-up drawer too.

It’s easy to identify what you need to throw away. The number on this symbol indicates how many months you can safely use a product from the time of opening.
Although, if you’re like most women,
an overflowing wardrobe will pose a
bit of a problem for storing your new
purchases. Now is the perfect time to
clear your wardrobe.
Once you’ve cleared your make-up bag, book a one-on-one make-up lesson with your local colour me beautiful consultant to start stocking up on the colours which are best for you.

The best way to check out what you have, what works and what doesn’t work in your wardrobe is to go through each item of clothing piece by piece. Give yourself plenty of time to do this.

You will need three piles:

Pile 1 Clothes you will keep
Pile 2 Clothes you might keep
Pile 3 Clothes that must go

Is it the right colour for your particular colouring? If the answer is yes, is it the right style? If it is, it goes in pile 1.

If it’s the right colour but the wrong style, can it be altered or worn differently to make it work? If it can, it goes in pile 2.

Is it the right style, but the wrong colour? Can you wear it with a complementary colour from your palette? Do you have a scarf in a colour that will make it work? If yes, it goes in pile 2.

If it’s the wrong colour and the wrong style, it goes in pile 3.

If it’s not your current size and you haven’t worn it for a year, it goes in pile 3.

Organise garments by categories: coats, jackets, suits, skirts, trousers, dresses, blouses and shirts. Grouping by colour within these categories will give you ideas for combining clothes.

Once you have organised your garments by category, take note of how many of each item you have. If you have five pairs of black trousers, don’t buy any more of these for awhile.

Button up jackets and coats, and pull up zips, so that garments hang straight before you put them in the wardrobe, all facing the same way.

If it is definitely a summer/ holiday item put it away in an alternative wardrobe or cupboard leaving space in the wardrobe for your new items for this season. When you get it out next spring you will have forgotten about it and it will seem fresh and new.

DON’T put anything back in the wardrobe unless it’s clean.

DON’T overcrowd your wardrobe.

Check every piece against what you have in pile 1 to see whether it is worth keeping. Does a top in the wrong colour work for you if worn with a jacket that you have decided to keep? If so, keep it.

Shortening the hem will salvage a skirt that’s too long.

Changing the buttons on a jacket will give it a new lease of life.

If it is a suit that isn’t quite right, can you split and wear one or both the items separately?
Give them to a friend.

Sell expensive items and those that are still current and of good quality at
consignment shops or online.

Donate them to a charity shop.
Before you put everything back in your wardrobe, vacuum and dust it, and perhaps place some moth-repellent products at the bottom. To preserve the shape of your clothes, you will need the correct hangers.

Sturdy wooden hangers for jackets and coats.

Wooden hangers with clips for skirts and trousers.

Padded hangers for lightweight and luxury fabrics.

Basic plastic hangers for blouses, shirts and lightweight summer dresses.

Finally, give yourself a pat on the back and a budget to spend on your new clothes!
