• If you are having a traditional white wedding, make sure the white you choose is the right shade for you:
• Soft white is a winner on all colourings
• Ivory looks radiant on the
deeps
and
clears
• Cream brightens up the complexions on the
warms
• Rose beige is an off white that is fabulous on the
cools
• As weddings become less conventional, many brides are
opting for colour on their outfits, be it a colour accent or on the entire dress. Don’t be shy of wearing stronger colours or icy shades as long as it is in your palette and is not a high fashion colour.
• It is crucial that the style you choose is appropriate for your
body shape. Try on as many different styles as needed to
ensure that you feel gorgeous and as comfortable as possible.
Don’t be swayed by the Cinderella look if it isn’t you
(flashback to Diana, Princess of Wales: a rectangle body in a
full hourglass dress just doesn’t work).
• The key advice is to ensure that you get an outfit which you will feel comfortable in - nothing too tight: loose fitting is best.
|
• Whatever the type of wedding, make sure your make-up is right and long lasting.
Have a hair and make-up rehearsal a month or two before the wedding, making sure that you still look like
yourself. This is not the time for experimenting with new looks.
• Scale and proportion are not only to be taken into consideration when choosing your dress, but apply to your
bouquet too! Large, flowing bouquets will look exquisite for those who are grander in scale, but will overpower a
petite woman; they should opt for a detailed and dainty bouquet instead.
Remember your wedding photographs will be around for a long time to haunt you. When in doubt, go simple.

In most cases the bride will choose what the bridesmaids wear. However, there needs to be a compromise between the bride’s ideas and the bridesmaids’ individual personalities and tastes. So, bride-to-be, please consider:
• The age of your bridesmaids and that the outfit you choose is appropriate for them
• The colour. Your biggest challenge will be to choose a colour that coordinates with
what you are wearing, but also a colour that suits all the bridesmaids’ various
colourings. Some shades of colour appear in all palettes, and they make a perfect
choice for ensuring that all your bridesmaids will look their best. They include:
• teal
• purple
|
|
|
• periwinkle
• turquoise
• blush pink (except for redheads)
• soft white, taupe and pewter make great base colours
ready for beading, banding, etc.
Another option is to choose shades within the same colour
umbrella as seen in these dresses from Debenhams.
• Although your bridesmaids may be wearing the same
colour dress, it doesn’t mean that they can wear the
same shades of make-up. The make-up look needs to be
adjusted for each individual’s colouring, but co-ordinated
with the overall theme of the wedding.
Neutral tones are generally a good option.
• Your bridesmaids are likely to come in different shapes
and sizes for which we suggest that each of them get
the right style for their body shape. By choosing a
softer fabric you will have more options to get the cut
right. Stiff fabrics do not gather or drape, whilst soft
fabrics can be made up to give a more constructed line.

Since many retailers want to tempt you to look like the Fairy Godmother in Shrek, the best advice is to go
shopping without telling the sales assistants that you are looking for a mother of the bride outfit.
• The head-to-toe colour and pattern matching is dated and shows no imagination.
• Make a stand and ensure that you choose a colour from your palette, not your daughter’s.
• If in doubt about the style and colour, go for something simple in a neutral colour which you will accessorise
with colours from your palette.
• Think ahead of how you could possibly wear the outfit again. Even a traditional dress made of two pieces can
be versatile enough to be worn separately for another formal occasion.

• Frame the lips with the tip of the lip pencil, while using the side of the pencil to colour
in the rest of the lips
• Apply lipstick, blot, then reapply.
• Add some lip gloss for extra colour –
it will be the first to go and your lipstick will
remain intact.
